Lockdown Updates: March-April-May 2020

Given the situation which the world finds itself in, QUBUF has made a rapid number changes over the past few months. In this update, we have taken the decision to include 3 months of updates rather than two: 1. Suspension of all playing activities:

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the club took the decision to suspend all playing activities until further notice. This included the cancellation of the Cuckoo Cup match, which had been reorganised after Fife had declared their intension to pull out in February 2020. 2. Purchase of Equipment: Shortly before the lockdown, the club invested an additional £98 into equipment for the club. This included a number of new sticks and equipment bags for the safe storage of our existing property. We also acquired new tactics boards which have been a great success so far! 3. AGM 2019/20: Whilst the date for the club AGM was originally set for March 24, after the Cuckoo Cup event, we unfortunately had to delay given the suspension of activities. Whilst we hoped that this suspension would be short, it became apparent that we would need to hold the AGM online in a virtual capacity. The AGM was held on May 1, 2020 and attended by seven members of the club, with several more sending their apologies. After a 48 hour election, the following candidates were elected to the Executive Committee for 2020/21: President: Steven Egan (returning) Treasurer: Alex Baine (new) Secretary: Andrew Fisher (returning to Committee, new role) Given the expansion plans for the club this year, the following members were appointed to assist the ongoing expansion: Vice-Treasurer: Jonathan Vice-Secretary: Niall Mc Loughlin The club wishes to express its thanks to everyone who voted in the election - we had a very strong turnout indeed. The club would also like to thank the outgoing secretary, Ben Cargin for his work this year. Whilst Ben has been largely unable to play with us this year due to schedule clashes, he has contributed greatly in a behind-the-scenes capacity which most of our members will be unaware of. 4. COVID-Social Events: During the AGM, it was resolved that we should take an active role in the Tuesday Speakeasy Quiz in order to maintain our activities during the lockdown period. Our first quiz took place on May 12, in which we scored a very respectable 39/49 points. We call on all our members to come and join us on Tuesday nights at 2100 for some fun, drinks and quizzing! 5. Misc. Updates: -The Club published a sample of some new graphics for 2020/21 season on our social medias. The response has been overwhelmingly positive! -Preparations are continuing to establish a Ulster University Floorball team. -The Executive Committee 2020/21 are looking into merchandising for the club as a way to increase revenue for the club next term. -Team Kits are still in the pipeline and have been addressed to QUBSU given the hold up with the supplier.
